Classroom Happenings for March 18th – 22nd, 2019
 Note: We are beginning our third reading unit this week! Unit three focuses on Changes in our world. Look for our new reading book to come home later this week.
 Along with our new reading unit comes fluency testing for the students. Fluent reading is the ability to read smoothly without hesitation or needing to sound out words. At the end of each story, students will be timed for one minute reading a passage they have not seen before. At this point in the school year, students should be reading at least 45 words per minute. The best way to help your child be successful on these fluency assessments is to review the sight words in the green notebook often and to have your child read each and every night. Reading fluency is built with reading practice.
Just a reminder, Target gift cards or cash donations for our class basket can be sent in at any time. The deadline to send in your donation is April 12th.

Monday (Day 6) Keyboarding – Review list 13 spelling words in blue spelling notebook. Review new and old sight words in green sight word notebook.
Tuesday (Day 7) Gym – Review List 13 spelling words.  Review all sight words in green notebook. Read small phonics book “Will They Get Here” focusing on Long i: y and Long e: y.
Wednesday (Day 8) Computers  Write List 13 spelling words 2x each. Review addition math facts.
Thursday (Day 9) Music – Review List 13 spelling words. Read small phonics book “The Picnic” focusing on words with one syllable where the vowel is making a long sound.
Friday (Day 10) Art – No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers and tests. Sign any stamped papers and return to school on Monday.

Classroom Happenings for March 11th – 15th, 2019
 Note: Last week we celebrated career week here at school. I would like to invite parents/guardians to come in and discuss your career or do a coinciding activity with our class. The students really love learning about the different jobs available to them when they grow up. If you would like to volunteer to do this, please let me know what days and times work for you and I will make a schedule.
March book orders will be due this Friday, March 15th. Please send order form and money in an envelope labeled with your child’s name. If you would like to place your order online, our classroom code is HGM4Y. If any orders will be books for an Easter basket, just let me know and I will make sure to not give them to your child.

Classroom Happenings for March 4th – 8th, 2019
 Note: Three hour delay days are non-rotation days. This means we do NOT have specials classes on three hour delay days. Please note the schedule below.
Progress reports for the 3rd marking period were sent home today. They are yours to keep. You do not need to sign and return it. If you have any questions regarding your child’s progress report, please contact me.

Monday (Non Rotation) – Review list 11 spelling words in blue spelling notebook, Long u words. Spelling test tomorrow. Review ALL sight words in green notebook. Read Life in the Forest. Our reading comprehension skill is author’s purpose. Phonics and reading/writing comprehension assessments tomorrow.
Tuesday (Day 7) Gym – Review addition math facts.
Wednesday (Day 8) Computers  Review List 12 spelling words, words with Long e.
Thursday (Day 9) Music – Review List 12 spelling words. Read small phonics book “The Seed” focusing on Long e words.
Friday (Day 10) Art – No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers and tests. Sign any stamped papers and return to school on Monday.

Classroom Happenings for February 25th- March 1st, 2019
 Note: Our PTO will once again be holding their annual basket raffle fundraiser in April. Teachers are asked to pick a theme and donate a basket. Each year my first grade class has won the ice-cream party for the most tickets placed in our basket the weekend of the fundraiser. I hope this year we will win again! Our class theme this year will be a “Target Bullseye” gift-card theme. I am asking each student to donate a Target gift-card or give a monetary donation and I will purchase the gift-cards. The amount is completely up to each family and what they are comfortable donating. I would like to have 100% participation in this fundraiser and I can’t do that without your help! Donations can be sent in at any time. Thank you for your support!
February Reading logs will be due this Friday, March 1st. Please take a few minutes to sit with your child while they read to you so they are able to complete their reading log.
This Friday will be our PBIS reward day for the month of February. Students who earn the reward can bring in a board game or an electronic game to play in the afternoon.

Classroom Happenings for February 11th- 15th, 2019
 Note: Valentine class lists were sent home last week. Students can bring in their completed cards at any point. All cards are due by this Friday, the day of our Valentine’s Day party. Please make sure no student is left out.

We started Unit 5 in math today. We will be learning about geometry and fractions in the upcoming weeks!
