Classroom Happenings for January 6th – 10th, 2020
Note: We will continue to work on our second story of Unit 2 in Reading, The Farmer in the Hat. We will have our phonics, spelling, and comprehension tests next week. The comprehension skill is Cause and Effect, what happened in the story and why does it happen.
In math, we are continuing with Unit 3 – Addition and Subtraction within 20. Please keep practicing addition and subtraction facts at home. Flash cards are a great way to help memorize math facts!
There is no ACHIEVE after-school program tomorrow, January 7th, due to the monthly faculty meeting.
Monday (Day 7) Computers- Review List 8 spelling words, words with Long a. Read decodable book “Wake Up, Nate” two times for fluency. The phonics skill is Long a: a_e. (sneaky e)
Tuesday (Day 8) Music – Write List 8 spelling words 2x each. Review ALL sight words in green notebook.
Wednesday (Day 1) Art- Review List 8 spelling words. Review ALL sight words in green notebook. Students should be able to read all words without hesitation.
Thursday (Day 2) Gym – Review List 8 spelling words. Review ALL sight words in green notebook. Read decodable book “Where is Dave” two times for fluency. The phonics skill is        c stealing the /s/ sound and g stealing the /j/ sound.
Friday (Day 3) Library   No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder, and any stamped papers. Return to school on Monday.

Classroom Happenings for December 16th – 20th, 2019
Note: This Wednesday, December 18th, will be our Ugly Sweater day at NSE. Students are permitted to wear a holiday themed shirt or sweater with jeans or sweatpants. A $1.00 donation is required to participate. Monetary donations will be given to the S.P.C.A.
Friday, December 20th, will be an early dismissal. Elementary students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon.
Friday will also be our PBIS reward day. First grade students are permitted to wear their pajamas to school and bring in an electronic game/tablet. Board games are also allowed and encouraged.

Monday (Day 2) Gym- Review List 8 spelling words, words with long a. Read a book and add it to your December reading log.
Tuesday (Day 3) Library – Study List 8 spelling words. Read a book and add it to your December reading log.
Wednesday (Day 4) Music- Review ALL sight words in green notebook. A new listed was added.
Thursday (Day 5) Art – No Homework.
Friday (Non-rotation) –  No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder, and any stamped papers. Return to school on Thursday, January 2nd.

Classroom Happenings for December 2nd – 6th, 2019
Note: December reading logs were sent home today. The goal is to read ten books per month however, I strongly encourage reading every night. Please look for a note in your child’s folder which gives an update on the Pizza Hut Book-It program.
We will continue working on our first story in Unit 2, A Big Fish for Max. The focus question in Unit 2 is “What is a Community?” Our stories will be centered around discussing this question.
In math, we will continue to work on addition and subtraction in Unit 3. Please continue to practice the Doubles Rap that was sent home last week.

Monday (No school)
Tuesday (Day 1) Art –Review List 7 spelling words, words with digraphs sh, th. Review ALL sight words in green notebook. A new list was added today.
Wednesday (Day 2) Gym- Write List 7 spelling words 2x each. Read small decodable book “Going Fishing” focusing on sh, th digraphs.
Thursday (Day 3) Library – Review List 7 spelling words. Review ALL sight words in green notebook.
Friday (Day 4) Music  No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder, and any stamped papers. Return to school on Monday.
