ONLINE Classroom Happenings for April 10th-17th, 2020

Just a few things:

1. New assignments have been posted for Week 2! These have a due date and we are now asking if you can either submit your child’s work right on google or take a picture of it and send it on dojo. This helps us to document which students are making an effort to participate in their academic activities.

2. Starting next week, April 17th, we will begin Phase II of online learning. We will be presenting one NEW skill per week in each subject (math, ELA, science, social studies). We will continue that through May and school will end as scheduled on June 3rd. Moving forward, there will be assignments given on the new material, as well as some review assignments.

3. Please continue to check your Class Dojo app frequently. We are still using this to communicate with each other any day or time. I will be sending weekly messages to families using Class Dojo. Office hours are through Google Meet on Tuesday and Thursday from 1-3 pm. You can use this time for phone calls, questions or showing completed work...or just for your kids to say hi to me and each other!

ONLINE Classroom Happenings for April 1-10, 2020
Note: This week we will begin our online review and enrichment activities! Many of you have already logged on and begun completing the activities assigned. That's great! Activities will remain posted for one week. New assignments will be given every Friday. If you have questions or need help with anything, I am always available on our ClassDojo. We will continue to use that as our primary form of communication.
For those families who opted to do paper packets, they will be distributed on Fridays from 4:00-6:00 pm or Mondays from 9:00-11:00 am. The first packet pickup is scheduled for Friday, April 3rd. Please remember to pull curbside at the elementary school and a school employee will place the packet in your trunk. 

Throughout all of the unknowns we are experiencing right now, keep in mind the most important things are to keep your child reading daily and practicing their addition and subtraction facts. My students did take home their spelling notebooks as well as their sight word notebooks. It will be beneficial for your child to review and practice them a few times a week.

Classroom Happenings for February 24th – 28th, 2020
Note: We will begin Unit 5 in math this week, Geometry and Fractions. Students are on the lookout for street and traffic signs so that they can identify the shapes of each.
February reading logs will be due next Monday, March 2nd.
Friday will be our monthly PBIS reward for students who followed the SPARTY during the month of February. Students will have free play time in the afternoon. If they would like to bring a toy from home, they are permitted to as long as the toy remains in the book bag until the designated time.
We will also have visitors on Friday from Bloomsburg University to help us celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday! Bloomsburg University education students will do a read-aloud followed by an activity. Be sure to ask your child all about it!

Monday (Day 6) Gym – Write List 11 spelling words 2x each. Worksheet in your child’s take-home folder. Review ALL sight words in the green notebook.
Tuesday (Day 7) Computers – Review List 11 spelling words. Read decodable phonics booklet “Luke Meets Duke” two times for fluency. Phonics skill is inflected –ed ending.
Wednesday (Day 8) Music- Study List 11 spelling words, Long u words. Final spelling test tomorrow. Review ALL sight words in green notebook. Oral assessment tomorrow.
Thursday (Day 1) Art – Read Life in the Forest with an adult. The reading skill is Author’s purpose-why did the author write the story, to inform or entertain. Reading comprehension and phonics assessments tomorrow.
Friday (Day 2) Gym– No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder and any stamped papers. Return to school on Monday.
