Classroom Happenings for October 28th – November 1st, 2019
Note: Our Halloween party is on Thursday! If you have not sent in your child’s $5.00 party money, please do so by Wednesday. Students should bring their costumes in a bag on Thursday, they are not permitted to wear them to school. Please be sure your child’s name is on the bag to avoid any confusion with duplicate costumes. Don’t forget to tune in to the live streaming of our indoor Halloween parade!!  
October Reading logs are due this Friday, November 1st. New logs for November will be coming home on Monday.
Students who score a 100% on their spelling pretest will be getting an additional set of words to review each week. These are “amazing words” that align with each story we cover in our reading books. Please help your child to read these words and review their meanings.
Monday (Day 4) Music – Review List 5 spelling words, short e words, in the blue spelling notebook. We took our pretest today.
Tuesday (Day 5) Art –Review List 5 spelling words. Review ALL sight words in green notebook. We added a new list today.
Wednesday (Day 6) Gym –Write List 5 spelling words 2x each. Worksheet is in your child’s folder. Read small decodable book “Jen the Hen” focusing on short e words. This is our first phonics skill in our new story Get the Egg.
Thursday (Day 7) Computers – Read a book! Have fun trick or treating!
Friday (Day 8) Music – No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder as well as any stamped papers and return to school on Monday.

Classroom Happenings for October 14th – 18th, 2019
Note: Thank you to those of you who have sent in party money. If you have not done so yet, please send in $5.00 party money as soon as possible. Our Halloween party is only two weeks away.
Friday will be a PAID Spartan dress down day. Students may wear a Spartan shirt with jeans or sweats if they bring in a $1.00 donation.
Book orders will be sent home this week. All money and orders will be due next Tuesday, October 22nd. If you would like to place your order online, our classroom code is HGM4Y.
We will begin our fourth reading story this week, A Fox and A Kit. Our reading focus skill will be main idea and details – what the story is mostly about and small pieces of information to support the main idea. Our phonics skills are inflected ending –s and inflected ending –ing.
Monday – No School.
Tuesday (Day 3) Library – Write List 4 spelling words 2x each. There is a worksheet in your child’s take-home folder. Review ALL sight words in green notebook.
Wednesday (Day 4) Music – Review List 4 spelling words. Review all sight words in green notebook.
Thursday (Day 5) Art – Review List 4 spelling words. Read small decodable book “Jan and Pam” two times for fluency. The phonics skill to focus on is inflected ending –ing.
Friday (Day 6) Gym – No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder as well as any stamped papers and return to school on Monday.

Classroom Happenings for September 30th – October 27th, 2019
Note: It is Homecoming/Spirit week at NS! Please refer to the handout that was sent home in the Friday Folder. Here is a brief recap…
Monday – Rainbow day, Tuesday – Favorite team day, Wednesday – Western day, Thursday – Throwback day, Friday – American pride/ Spartan spirit day
We will begin our 3rd Reading story this week, The Big Blue Ox. Look for new spelling and reading words to come home to review nightly. Our new phonics skills are short o and final s /s/, /z/.

Monday (Day 1) Art – Review List 3 spelling words. Please do not write in the blue spelling notebook.  Read aloud for fifteen minutes.
Tuesday (Day 2) Gym – Review List 2 spelling words. Read small decodable book “Dot Can” two times for fluency. Phonics skill to focus on is short o.
Wednesday (Day 3) Library – Write spelling words two times each, worksheet is in your child’s take-home folder. Read aloud for fifteen minutes. Add the book to your October Reading Log!
Thursday (Day 4) Music – Review List 3 spelling words. Read small decodable book “Can Do!” two times for fluency. Phonics skill to focus on is the final -s sound /s/, /z/.
Friday (Day 5) Art – No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder as well as any stamped papers and return to school on Monday.
