Classroom Happenings for September 16^th - 20^th, 2019

Note: We will begin our second reading story, Pig in a Wig, this week. Watch for new spelling words, new reading words, and new phonics skills. Our phonics skills for this story are short i and final –x. Our reading skill is plot- what happens at the beginning, middle, and end of a story.

·         Reminder, any student who gets a 100% on the spelling pretest does NOT have to complete spelling homework for that week. They also do not have to take the final spelling test for that list of words. 

·         Friday is a Spartan dress down day. Students can dress down in a Spartan shirt with sweats/jeans for a $1 donation. Please send money in an envelope labeled with your child’s name. 

·         Please remember to send in a small snack with your child daily. I have been providing one for those who have forgotten however, if it becomes a frequent occurrence, your child will have to go without. Thank you for understanding.

Monday (Day 7) Computers – Review List 2 spelling words. Please do not write in the blue spelling notebook.

Tuesday (Day 8) Music – Review List 2 spelling words. Please do not write in the blue spelling notebook! Review reading words in green notebook. Please do not write in the green notebook!

Wednesday (Day 1) Art – Write List 2 spelling words 2x each, worksheet in folder.

Thursday (Day 2) Gym – Review List 2 spelling words. Read small decodable reader “The Fix” focusing on short i and final x.

Friday (Day 3) Library – No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder as well as any stamped papers and return to school on Monday.

** Please check your child’s homework folder each night and help them complete any homework assignments. Remove any papers/worksheets that are on the “Keep” side.

Classroom Happenings for September 9^th - 13^th, 2019

·         Book orders are due this week. Please send in orders and money by Wednesday, September 11^th.  If you would like to order online, our classroom code is HGM4Y.

·         Picture day is tomorrow. Students will need to wear dress code clothing for picture day. SMILE!

Monday (Day 2) Gym – Write List 1 spelling words 2x each. (Worksheet in take-home folder) Read small decodable book “Tap! Tap! Tap!” two times for fluency. (Parent initial and return) Focus on the short a words.

Tuesday (Day 3) Library – Review List 1 spelling words. Please do not write in the blue spelling notebook! It is sent home for studying purposes, not writing practice. Review reading words in green notebook. Please do not write in the green notebook!

Wednesday (Day 4) Music – Study List 1 spelling words, final spelling test tomorrow. Read small decodable book “The Pack” two times for fluency. (Initial and return) Focus on the words with final –ck.

 Thursday (Day 5) Art – Review reading words on p. 17 of the reading text book. Read Sam, Come Back! Focus on characters and setting. Phonics and reading comprehension tests tomorrow.

Friday (Day 6) Gym – No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder as well as any stamped papers and return to school on Monday.
