Classroom Happenings for February 10^th – 14^th, 2020

Note: If any homeroom helper parents would like to come in and help out for the Valentine’s Day party, please let me know ASAP. The party is scheduled for this Thursday, February 13^th, from 2:00-3:00 pm. In the event of bad weather, the party will be moved to Friday, February 14^th.

Please send in class Valentine’s Day cards on or before this Thursday, February 13^th. Remember to write a card out for Jaden if you have extra!

Any student who had two or fewer absences in the 2^nd parking period will be receiving a doughnut as a reward on Monday, February 10^th. These students will also receive a free dress down day. The date for this is at the discretion of each individual teacher. My class will be having their dress down day this Wednesday, February 12^th. A flyer was sent home today in your child’s take-home folder.

Reminder there is no school for students this Friday, February 14^th and also next Monday, February 17^th.

Monday (Day 6) Gym – Review List 10 spelling words, Long o words. Read decodable phonics book “A Ride to the Lake” two times for fluency. The phonics skill to focus on is contractions.

Tuesday (Day 7) Computers – Study List 10 spelling words. Final spelling test tomorrow. Review ALL sight words in green notebook. Oral assessment tomorrow.

Wednesday (Day 8) Music- Read The Big Circle with an adult. Reading comprehension assessment tomorrow. The reading skill to focus on is Sequence- the order events happen in a story.

Thursday (Day 1) Art – No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder and any stamped papers. Return to school on Tuesday.

Classroom Happenings for January 27^th – 31^st, 2020

Note: January reading logs will be due this Friday, January 31^st. Students should be reading every single night. Please return the completed logs on or before Friday to receive the monthly reading reward.

This Thursday, January 30^th, is our 100^th day of school! Students will be participating in a variety of activities in our classroom all centered around the number 100. Don’t forget to ask them all about it!

Monday (Day 5) Art – Review List 9 spelling words. Review ALL sight words in green notebook.

Tuesday (Day 6) Gym – Review List 9 spelling words, Long i words. Final spelling test tomorrow. Review all sight words in green notebook. Oral assessment tomorrow. Read Who Works Here and review Author’s Purpose – did the author write to entertain or inform. Reading assessment tomorrow.

Wednesday (Day 7) Computers- Read for fifteen minutes. Review sight words in green notebook.

Thursday (Day 8) Music – Review List 10 spelling words, Long o words.

Friday (Day 1) Art –  No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder and any stamped papers. Return to school on Monday.

Classroom Happenings for January 6^th – 10^th, 2020

Note: We will continue to work on our second story of Unit 2 in Reading, The Farmer in the Hat. We will have our phonics, spelling, and comprehension tests next week. The comprehension skill is Cause and Effect, what happened in the story and why does it happen.

In math, we are continuing with Unit 3 – Addition and Subtraction within 20. Please keep practicing addition and subtraction facts at home. Flash cards are a great way to help memorize math facts!

There is no ACHIEVE after-school program tomorrow, January 7^th, due to the monthly faculty meeting.

Monday (Day 7) Computers- Review List 8 spelling words, words with Long a. Read decodable book “Wake Up, Nate” two times for fluency. The phonics skill is Long a: a_e. (sneaky e)

Tuesday (Day 8) Music – Write List 8 spelling words 2x each. Review ALL sight words in green notebook.

Wednesday (Day 1) Art- Review List 8 spelling words. Review ALL sight words in green notebook. Students should be able to read all words without hesitation.

Thursday (Day 2) Gym – Review List 8 spelling words. Review ALL sight words in green notebook. Read decodable book “Where is Dave” two times for fluency. The phonics skill is        c stealing the /s/ sound and g stealing the /j/ sound.

Friday (Day 3) Library –  No homework! Please check the Friday Folder for important papers. Sign your child’s Friday Folder, and any stamped papers. Return to school on Monday.
